Registration of candidates for Thailand’s House of Representatives seats in the country’s general election, which will take place the following month, began on Monday across the entire country.
According to Election commissioner Thitichet Nuchanart, Monday’s application process for constituency candidates in the Southeast Asian country went smoothly and in an orderly fashion.
According to what Thitichet said, it will take the Election Commission up to seven days to check the candidates’ qualifications before deciding whether or not to approve their eligibility.
The commission will begin accepting registrations for party-list candidates as well as nominees for prime minister on Tuesday and will continue doing so through Friday.
The commission made the announcement back in March that the date for the general election would be May 14. More than 52 million people who are eligible to vote will elect 500 members of the House of Representatives using Thailand’s two-ballot system. Of those 500 members, 400 will be elected to represent constituency seats, and the remaining 100 will be chosen from party-list candidates.
