Over 100,000 Thai Citizens Register to Vote Abroad for Upcoming General Election

Over 100,000 Thai citizens have registered to vote from overseas in the upcoming general election, according to a report released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry spokesperson, Kanchana Pattarachoke, sourced the information from Thai embassies, consulates, and the Thai Office of Trade and Economic Affairs located in 94 locations worldwide.

The registration for Thai citizens living abroad to participate in the election began on March 25th and ended on April 9th. The number of registered voters living overseas amounts to 115,139, which is close to the number of overseas voters recorded during the 2019 general election.

Among the countries with the highest number of registered Thai voters are Australia with 19,830, the United States with 15,190, the United Kingdom with 7,495, Japan with 7,414, and Germany with 5,954.

The ministry is urging registered voters to stay informed about eligible voters’ announcements through various social media channels of the Thai embassies and consulates. It also encourages all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote as per the designated time, date, and method specified by the Thai embassy and consulate.
