Thai Citizens Stranded in Sudan Safely Return Home

Recently, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramatwinai welcomed back 78 Thai citizens who had been stranded in war-torn Sudan. The group included 71 students from southern border provinces who had gone to Sudan to study. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to all agencies involved in the safe return of the Thai citizens and also thanked Egypt and Saudi Arabia for their cooperation.

Upon arrival at Don Mueang Royal Thai Air Force Base, the group underwent immigration checks and health screenings before being taken to their hotels. Those who reside in the southern region are scheduled to board a C-130 aircraft provided by the Royal Thai Air Force to return to their hometowns on a later date.

Furthermore, the Royal Thai Air Force task force is currently stationed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, coordinating with the Royal Thai Embassy in Riyadh to assist the next group of Thai citizens departing from the Port of Sudan. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the safety of Thai citizens and the safe return of those wishing to come home.

Officials have indicated that another batch of 66 Thais in Sudan have already arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, waiting to be extracted. The remaining 132 Thais will be picked up by the Royal Thai Air Force using an Airbus A340-500.

It is heartening to see that the Thai government is taking measures to ensure the safe return of its citizens from conflict zones. The successful rescue mission was made possible through the collaboration of multiple agencies and countries. The Prime Minister’s expressed gratitude is a testament to the dedication and commitment of all involved parties.
