Thai Government Aims to Earn 100 Billion Baht from Durian Exports to China

Thailand is banking on its durian fruit to rake in 100 billion baht from exports to China this year. According to Anucha Burapachaisri, spokesperson for the government, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is targeting to export at least 700,000 tonnes of fresh durian during this year’s fruit harvest season in the country’s Eastern Region.

The Chinese market has proven to be a lucrative one for Thai durians, and its popularity continues to grow. Burapachaisri noted that China is receiving Thai products very well at the moment, and Thai durians are highly popular there. The demand for Thai durians has come about through the collaboration of state and private sector organizations, which include Thai-Chinese agricultural products associations, durian exporters, and the Association of Thai Durian Producers. The entities have worked together to ensure the production process is up to standard at every step of the way.

Burapachaisri added that the Chinese market is also proving to be a significant source of tourists for Thailand, citing figures from China’s Civil Aviation Administration, which show that the country is among the top five destinations for flights departing from China between April 10-16.

To ensure Thai products can compete in the Chinese and global market, Burapachaisri said the government is committed to maintaining quality and compliance with international standards. This would increase confidence in Thai products and services, and the government is ready to support those with good potential. The success of Thai durians in China is a testament to the value of such collaborations and investments in quality.
