Move Forward Party Announces Ambitious Legislative Agenda for Parliament Reopening

The Move Forward Party has unveiled an extensive plan to introduce 45 bills for amendments and new laws once the Parliament reconvenes, according to a high-ranking party official.

Bencha Saengchantra, an influential Member of Parliament representing the Move Forward party list, took to social media on May 17 to disclose the party’s agenda. The proposed bills encompass a wide range of areas, spanning bureaucratic reform to the elimination of mandatory conscription.

In her online post, Bencha meticulously classified the 45 bills into eight distinct categories, articulating their respective objectives as follows:

  1. Political Laws: The Move Forward Party aims to revise pertinent legislation to pave the way for the establishment of a new charter-drafting assembly, with the ultimate goal of crafting a constitution that truly represents the interests of the people. Furthermore, the party seeks to amend the Military Service Act, replacing compulsory conscription with a voluntary system. Additionally, Move Forward intends to propose a political amnesty bill in an effort to address the deep-seated political conflicts that have persisted since 2006, while striving to bridge the existing political divide in Thailand.
  2. Laws on Rights and Liberty: The party’s fundamental manifesto entails amending laws such as Articles 112 and 116 of the Criminal Code and the Computer Crimes Act. Move Forward will also push for the introduction and enactment of legislation legalizing same-sex marriage within the first 100 days of the new parliamentary term, along with a bill that supports sexual diversity.
  3. Bureaucratic Reform Laws: In a bid to promote transparency and combat corruption, Move Forward plans to introduce a law mandating government agencies to disclose all information, while establishing an efficient anti-corruption system. Moreover, the party aims to propose legislation that streamlines the process of obtaining permits and licenses from the state, decentralizes administrative power and budget, and advocates for the election of provincial governors.
  4. Land Reform Laws: Move Forward Party aspires to resolve land disputes between individuals and the state, granting farmers the right to cultivate their land, among other measures.
  5. Public Service Laws: The party endeavors to enhance public services, with a particular focus on improving water facilities and public transportation.
  6. Labor Laws: Relevant labor legislation will be amended to fortify workers’ rights and protection.
  7. Economic Laws: Move Forward is committed to enacting a progressive liquor act, introducing bills to impose taxes on large land plots and the wealthy, and amending the Fishery Act to safeguard the livelihoods of local fishermen.
  8. Environmental Laws: The party is set to propose a climate change bill that establishes carbon emission limits, with the ambitious goal of Thailand achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Additionally, Move Forward intends to amend laws pertaining to the transportation of hazardous substances.

The Move Forward Party asserts that its proposed bills are a testament to its unwavering commitment to instigate reform and address critical issues plaguing Thailand. By presenting this comprehensive legislative agenda, the party seeks to contribute significantly to the country’s development and fulfill the expectations of its ardent supporters.
