Polish Tourist’s Shocking Murder Confession in Bangkok Condo

Polish Tourist Accused of Murdering and Dismembering Ukrainian Girlfriend in Bangkok Condo

A Polish man has allegedly murdered and dismembered his 27-year-old Ukrainian girlfriend, identified as “Alona,” inside a condo in Bangkok, Thailand. The suspect attempted to flee the country via taxi but was apprehended near the Cambodian border in Sa Keao province.

Authorities were notified yesterday when the body of a Ukrainian woman was discovered in a condo room in the Bang Khlo subdistrict of the Bang Kho Laem district in Bangkok. The victim, Alona Shevchenko, was found in room No. 708 on the 32nd floor, where her bloodied and dismembered body was lying on the bed. A saw was found near her partially dismembered remains. Police estimate that she had been killed one to two days prior.

According to the investigation, Alona had been residing with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Jan Jerzy Lagoda-Filippow, a Polish national. The couple entered Thailand as tourists on April 29, 2023, and rented a condo together in Bangkok.

Around noon, Lagoda-Filippow packed his belongings and arranged for a taxi to take him to the border in Sa Keao province for 1,500 baht. The taxi driver became suspicious of the suspect’s behavior and alerted the condo’s security guard. Although the security guard requested that Lagoda-Filippow wait, he refused and insisted on leaving in the taxi. The security guard then contacted the condo unit’s owner and requested access to the room, leading to the discovery of Alona’s body.

At 7:30 p.m., soldiers and police apprehended Lagoda-Filippow in front of a hotel at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint in Sa Keao province, just as he was about to cross into Cambodia.

Authorities have engaged the Polish Embassy in Bangkok to secure an interpreter for the suspect’s interrogation.

UPDATE #1: Polish Murder Suspect Asks Bangkok Taxi Driver for Assistance in Disposing of Ukrainian Girlfriend’s Body through Google Translate

In an interview with Thai news platform CH3, a taxi driver has disclosed that the Polish murder suspect, Jan Jerzy Lagoda-Filippow, asked him via Google Translate to help him dispose of his Ukrainian girlfriend’s body in a Bangkok condominium. The taxi driver picked up Lagoda-Filippow in the Bang Kho Laem district and communicated with him using the translation app.

According to the taxi driver, the Polish tourist initially expressed a desire to visit a casino. However, when they were unable to locate one, Lagoda-Filippow asked the driver through Google Translate, “Can you help me find a cleaner?” Perplexed, the driver inquired about the purpose, to which the suspect responded, “I’m looking for a cleaning machine for a corpse” and further added, “Do you have a tool to cut up a body?”

Recognizing that something was seriously amiss, the taxi driver stopped at a restaurant and called his friend, Ek, a Tuk Tuk driver who had better English skills. Lagoda-Filippow confessed to Ek, saying, “I stabbed my wife,” and when asked why, he requested their help in bagging the body parts.

Alarmed by the situation, the taxi driver dropped off Lagoda-Filippow near a hotel on Sathorn Road and promptly returned to the condominium to inform the security guard, ultimately leading to the discovery of Alona’s body. The taxi driver noted a foul smell emanating from the suspect’s clothes during their encounter.

The driver’s friend, Ek, a 47-year-old individual, stated that he was approached by the taxi driver around 1 p.m. and was shown a message via Google Translate from Lagoda-Filippow, which read, “Can you help find something to get rid of the smell? Because I killed my girlfriend and I’m looking for someone to help me go up there and cut up her body.” Both drivers, uncertain about the truthfulness of the tourist’s claims, decided to inform the condominium’s security guard.

Approximately 30 minutes later, the suspect returned to the condo but left again in a taxi before disappearing.

CCTV footage captured the last moments of Alona’s life as she walked down the condo corridor with Lagoda-Filippow at 11:52 p.m. on Friday, May 12. On Sunday, Lagoda-Filippow was seen in the corridor at 12:15 p.m. with a box, which is believed to have contained the saws found in the room. At 12:35 p.m., he was observed taking the elevator downstairs while carrying a large bag.

Police arrested Lagoda-Filippow at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint at 7:30 p.m. as he attempted to flee into Cambodia.

UPDATE #2: Court Denies Bail Request for Polish Tourist Accused of Murdering Ukrainian Girlfriend in Bangkok Condo

The South Bangkok Criminal Court has rejected the bail application of Jan Jerzy Lagoda-Filippow, a 25-year-old Polish tourist accused of the murder and dismemberment of his Ukrainian girlfriend at a high-rise condominium in Bangkok. The court cited the defendant’s previous attempt to flee to Cambodia as a flight risk in denying the bail request.

Lagoda-Filippow was apprehended on Monday evening at the Khlong Luek Border Checkpoint in Sa Keao province, Aranyapratheth district, on suspicion of killing and dismembering 25-year-old Alona Savchenko, who was of Ukrainian nationality.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly stabbed Savchenko in the chest and used a handsaw to mutilate her body on the 32nd floor of the Key Sathorn-Charoenraj condominium in the Bang Kho Laem district. Her head was nearly severed during the gruesome act.

The incident came to light when the taxi driver noticed the Polish man’s strange behavior and informed the condo’s security guard. The discovery of Savchenko’s body prompted an autopsy, which revealed that she had been killed at least 24 hours prior to her body being found.

Savchenko, who worked as a marketing specialist for an Estonian firm, had obtained a Bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Zaporizhzhia National University in Ukraine. She had also completed a business course at Guangdong University of Finance in China.

Lagoda-Filippow, on the other hand, owns an advertising firm registered in London.
