Thai Medical Team to Accompany Hajj Pilgrims, Ensuring Health and Safety

The Ministry of Public Health has unveiled a comprehensive plan to provide medical support and care for Thai Muslims embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia this year.

As part of the initiative, a team of dedicated medical personnel will accompany and assist Thai pilgrims throughout their journey. The Permanent Secretary for Public Health, Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, and his assistant, Dr. Suppachok Wetchaphanphesat, will personally see off the first medical team at Suvarnabhumi Airport, marking the start of their crucial role in ensuring the well-being of the pilgrims.

Dr. Suppachok shared that approximately 12,000 Thai Muslims will be traveling to Mecca from May 21 to June 23, with their return expected in July. As part of the preparations, all pilgrims are required to undergo a series of health checkups and receive vaccinations, including those for influenza, meningococcal disease, and COVID-19, in order to safeguard their health and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

To provide continuous medical support throughout the pilgrimage, the medical personnel will be divided into three teams. This year, the leadership of the Thai Hajj Medical Office will be entrusted to Dr. Zulkifli Yusof, the Director of Mai Kaen Hospital in Pattani and Deputy Director of the Southernmost Health Development Administrative Center. The remaining volunteers and medics will depart on June 2 and June 15, respectively, ensuring a continuous presence and prompt medical assistance for the Thai pilgrims.

Upon their return to Thailand, all participants of the Hajj pilgrimage will be required to adhere to the mandated 14-day quarantine period, as outlined by the regulations in place. This precautionary measure aims to mitigate any potential risks and ensure the safety of the pilgrims and the wider community.

With the deployment of a dedicated medical team and comprehensive health measures, the Ministry of Public Health reaffirms its commitment to prioritizing the well-being and safety of Thai Muslims undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage, further enhancing the overall experience of this significant religious journey.
