In a resolute commitment to safeguarding children’s rights, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has introduced a comprehensive child-safeguarding policy. The announcement was made by Bangkok Deputy Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon during a workshop held at City Hall on May 23, where it was revealed that the policy is slated for full implementation by October of this year.
Attended by prominent city executives, officials, teachers, and babysitters from schools and pre-schools under the jurisdiction of the BMA, the workshop serves as the initial step in educating key stakeholders about the policy. Participants were provided with valuable insights into the necessary measures to be taken during emergencies or incidents involving children, ensuring their safety is promptly addressed and protected.
The child-safeguarding policy set forth by the BMA extends beyond providing exceptional care for children. It places significant emphasis on avoiding inappropriate interactions and mistreatment. Through educating individuals entrusted with the well-being of children, the BMA aims to foster a nurturing environment that upholds children’s rights and shields them from harm.
Furthermore, the policy actively encourages children’s active participation in shaping school policies. It provides a platform for children to voice their opinions and suggestions on a wide range of relevant topics, including school uniforms, hairstyles, education, and safety concerns.
The BMA aspires for Bangkok to become the pioneer city in Thailand to seamlessly integrate this policy across all agencies involved in matters related to children. By doing so, the administration seeks to ensure that children are safeguarded from all forms of violence and violations, nurturing their growth into responsible citizens who contribute to the city’s overall development.
