The Meteorological Department has issued a stern warning of heavy rainfall for several regions in the country, urging residents to remain vigilant in light of changing weather patterns. The downpours are expected to impact the lower Northern, Northeastern, Central, Eastern, and Southern regions, raising concerns about potential flash floods and runoff in low-lying and steep areas.
According to the department, the significant increase in rainfall can be attributed to the powerful southwest monsoon and a low-pressure trough extending from lower Vietnam through Thailand and reaching Myanmar. Given the intensity of these weather systems, caution and preparedness are crucial for residents living in the affected areas.
To ensure safety, the department has advised small boats in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea to refrain from setting sail until Tuesday (30 May), as adverse weather conditions are expected.
Looking ahead, the strong southwest monsoon is forecasted to persist from May 31 to June 3, covering the Andaman Sea, the southern mainland, and the Gulf of Thailand. Consequently, heavy rain is anticipated in specific areas of the Central Plains, as well as in the East and South of Thailand.
Furthermore, the department has reported on the movement of Typhoon Mawar, currently positioned approximately 600-700 kilometers east of Luzon in the Philippines. Fortunately, it is projected to veer towards Taiwan and is not expected to directly impact Thailand.
