Bangkok, May 28, 2023 – A distressing motorcycle accident occurred yesterday, resulting in the loss of two lives as the vehicle plunged into a nearby canal. Pol. Lt. Col. Rakkiat Pathumwan of Sor. (Investigation) Sutthisan Police Station received reports of the incident on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, located in the bustling Ratchada Subdistrict of Din Daeng District. Without delay, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel from Ramathibodi Hospital, accompanied by volunteers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation, hurried to the scene.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered a gray Honda Wave 125 i motorbike submerged in the canal alongside Vibhavadi Rangsit Road. The victims were identified as a young couple, presumably husband and wife. Rescuers immediately launched a search operation to locate the bodies. Tragically, the lifeless form of Mr. Natthapong, a 21-year-old man, was recovered from the water. He was found wearing a blue T-shirt and black shorts, with a noticeable head injury and both arms broken. In contrast, his companion, Ms. Manikar, an 18-year-old woman, appeared unscathed, clad in pajamas with long pants and a pink long-sleeved shirt.
Mrs. Wilailak, grieving mother of Mr. Nattapong, revealed that the couple resided in Soi Sakthi, Phayathai District, and were the parents of a ten-month-old baby. Prior to the incident, they had entrusted their child to someone’s care, intending to quickly run an errand and return to sleep alongside their little one. However, their lives were abruptly shattered when Mrs. Wilailak received the devastating news of her son’s demise in a tragic accident.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that a passerby who was cleaning the area noticed the rear lights of a vehicle submerged in the water. Concerned, the individual promptly alerted the authorities, who arrived to inspect the scene. Subsequently, it was determined that the submerged object was, in fact, a motorcycle. However, the precise time of the accident remains unknown. As the crime scene analysis yielded no discernible evidence of other parties involved, officials plan to question witnesses who may have observed the incident. Additionally, CCTV footage from the vicinity will be carefully examined to shed light on the true cause of this heart-wrenching loss. The investigation will proceed in accordance with legal protocols, as authorities strive to uncover the full details surrounding this tragic event.
