In the wake of the tragic death of Sirada Sinprasert, a dedicated teacher at Sacred Heart Convent School in Bangkok, the government has announced resolute measures to address the aftermath of a violent clash between vocational school students that claimed her life.
The incident unfolded on November 11 when two unidentified students on a motorcycle opened fire on a university student. In a devastating turn of events, Sirada, who was at an ATM booth, became an unintended victim of the violent clash. Despite being rushed to MedPark Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
The intended target, a 19-year-old student, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is currently in critical but stable condition at Chulalongkorn Hospital. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident thus far.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Kanika Aunjit conveyed the government’s condolences to Sirada’s family and affirmed that stringent measures would be implemented to prevent such violent incidents, which unfortunately have become more frequent, often involving students from rival vocational schools in Bangkok.
In a coordinated effort, the Interior Ministry, in collaboration with the Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Ministry, is set to take urgent steps to enhance public safety and curb the occurrence of student street fights that escalate into tragic consequences.
Sacred Heart Convent School, deeply affected by the loss, announced a prayer service for Sirada at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Suphanburi. The school has undertaken the responsibility of covering all funeral expenses. Additionally, a public donation drive is being organized to provide support to Sirada’s family.
Sirada, who had been an integral part of the school community since 1996, not only dedicated herself to education but also served as the primary supporter for her aged parents and her late brother’s children. The community, now grieving her loss, unites in expressing condolences and seeking ways to support the family during this difficult time. The tragic incident has prompted a collective call for heightened safety measures and a more profound commitment to preventing such heartbreaking events in the future.
