Chinese Tourist Killed On His First Day In Thailand

A tragic incident unfolded in Samut Prakan Province, Thailand, as a Chinese tourist lost his life on the first day of his trip. The tourist, who had just arrived, was struck by a speeding pickup truck while crossing a zebra crossing in Bang Bo district on Friday night. Identified as a 67-year-old man, he had left his hotel to visit a nearby convenience store and was returning when the accident occurred.

Security camera footage revealed the pickup truck barreling down the road, its horn blaring, before colliding with the pedestrian. Despite efforts by emergency medical technicians to revive him, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Shockingly, the truck driver fled without stopping, leaving authorities scrambling for clues.

Authorities identified the suspect as a 35-year-old Cambodian man and launched a search operation. The vehicle, found to have a fake license plate, was located at a construction firm’s premises in Muang district the next morning. Although the owner claimed to have sold it to the suspect months ago, the transfer hadn’t been completed.

Further investigation led to the suspect’s apartment, which was found abandoned along with his wife. Police are now intensifying efforts to locate him, collaborating with border authorities and contacting his relatives in hopes of his surrender.

The tragic incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and highlights the challenges faced by authorities in hit-and-run cases involving tourists. As investigations continue, the victim’s identity remains undisclosed pending family notification.
