Bangkok Police Raid Unveils Illicit Plus-Size Parties

In a dramatic operation on March 9, 2024, the heart of Bangkok witnessed a significant police raid targeting a notorious organizer of plus-size women’s parties allegedly involved in illicit activities. The raid, spearheaded by high-ranking officers from the Metropolitan Police, culminated in the apprehension of a 49-year-old woman known as Sophang, or “Kae,” at a prominent resort in the Bang Khen district.

The investigation into these clandestine gatherings began following tips received by the Metropolitan Police regarding online advertisements promoting events featuring plus-size women for sexual services. These parties, held in Bangkok’s Ram Inthra area, were explicitly detailed in advertisements on the X application, explicitly mentioning the nature of the activities.

Undercover agents were deployed to infiltrate the parties after confirming the details of the events, which required an entry fee and promised unlimited sexual encounters. Sophang, the alleged organizer, was arrested at the resort where one such party was taking place. During interrogation, she confessed to orchestrating the events and receiving a fee of 800 baht (approximately US$28) per guest for her services.

The police seized various items, including condoms and sex toys, along with evidence from bank transactions, bolstering the case against Sophang. She now faces legal proceedings for her purported involvement in the sex trade operation.

Meanwhile, a parallel investigation led to the surrender of another woman suspected of operating a minor sex trade and drug distribution network. This development stemmed from allegations by two teenage victims who had reached out to a local Facebook page, Zoom Rayong, claiming they had been held captive and exploited in a house functioning as a brothel in the Mueang district.

The crackdown, orchestrated by Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsaeng and Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, with the cooperation of Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradej Thamsuthee and Pol. Col. Chakrawut Klainil of the Royal Thai Police, underscores the authorities’ determination to tackle illicit activities within the city. Such operations send a clear message that illegal ventures facilitating exploitation and vice will not be tolerated within Bangkok’s boundaries.
