Thailand Introduces EEC Visa for Global Professionals

In an effort to transform the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) into a thriving industrial hub, Thailand’s government has introduced a groundbreaking 10-year visa aimed at attracting top-tier professionals and experts from around the world. The initiative was announced on May 15 and is designed to bolster the country’s economic prospects by drawing skilled individuals into key industries.

The new EEC visa, endorsed by the Thai Cabinet, is a strategic move to entice specialists, executives, professionals, and their families to the region. Deputy Government Spokeswoman Rudklao Intawong Suwankiri highlighted that this visa is central to Thailand’s efforts to enhance its national competitiveness and stimulate economic growth.

The EEC visa allows for an initial five-year stay with the possibility of extension, as well as multiple entries based on the length of the employment contract. The visa targets four main categories: specialists, executives, professionals, and their families. Additionally, the government has introduced a competitive personal income tax cap of 17% for those residing and working in the EEC, a significant reduction from Thailand’s current top tax rate of 35%. This move underscores the nation’s commitment to improving its economic outlook. “The EEC visa aims to attract global experts and contribute significantly to the development of the EEC,” Rudklao stated.
