A young British man was detained in Pattaya following an altercation at a pool party that led to the death of a Russian man. The incident occurred after the British man reportedly struck the Russian, who had allegedly made sexual advances towards his wife, resulting in fatal injuries.
The tragic event took place at 3:16 AM on May 24, 2024, at a villa in View Point Village on Soi Chaiyaphruek 1, Banglamung. The victim, 36-year-old Igor Yasilyev, was attending a social gathering when he encountered the suspect. The British man, identified as 35-year-old Ricky Aaron Williams, allegedly punched Yasilyev in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the ground. Yasilyev was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite rescue efforts.
The Pattaya City Police, led by Superintendent Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, launched an investigation and apprehended Williams at his residence in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, around 1:00 PM the same day. An arrest warrant was issued, and Williams was detained at a gatehouse approximately 10 kilometers from the incident site. He was taken into custody at the Pattaya City Police Station for further questioning.
Williams’ Thai wife, referred to by the pseudonym Miss Mod, revealed that she had left the pool party early to go to work but returned after receiving a message from her husband after 2 AM. She recounted that Yasilyev, under the influence of alcohol, began acting inappropriately towards her. This prompted Williams to confront and strike Yasilyev in defense of his wife.
Williams has acknowledged his role in the incident, expressing deep regret for his actions and apologizing to both the Pattaya police and the public. He remains in custody at the Pattaya Police Station, facing charges of deadly assault.
Officials present during the arrest included members of the investigation team and other authorities from the Pattaya City Police Station.
