Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has visited Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital to review the progress of the new 18-story Center of Medical Excellence. The visit, which took place recently, was aimed at assessing the development of the project and discussing its role in establishing the hospital as a major medical hub for the northeastern region of Thailand.
Accompanied by Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin and other key health officials, Prime Minister Srettha underscored the government’s commitment to the project. He reviewed budget allocations for the procurement of medical equipment and addressed workforce requirements and compensation issues.
The Center of Medical Excellence, designed to serve nearly 6.7 million people, aims to significantly enhance public health services and bridge healthcare gaps in the provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Buri Ram, and Surin. The facility spans over 100,000 square meters and is backed by a budget exceeding 4.4 billion baht. It is part of a broader initiative to upgrade infrastructure across five regional hospitals.
The center’s primary goals include reducing mortality rates by alleviating congestion, minimizing the need for patient transfers, cutting travel costs, and accelerating access to healthcare services. These improvements are expected to elevate the provincial hospital into a specialized medical research institute.
Several officials attended the visit, including senior representatives from the Public Health Ministry and local health departments, highlighting the high level of governmental support for this significant healthcare project.
