A 27-year-old Thai tourist who went missing during a visit to Phu Soi Dao National Park in Uttaradit has been found safe following a seven-day search, the park’s chief, Farut Jaithatkul, reported on Thursday.
Thanwarich Mateema, who had been solo trekking, was discovered at 7am by the park’s restaurant owner after he walked back to the area on his own. Exhausted from his ordeal, the tourist was immediately provided with food and sent to a hospital for a medical check-up.
According to Mr. Farut, Mr. Thanwarich managed to find his way out of the forest by following a natural path, eventually arriving at the Phu Soi Dao waterfall area, which is located near the restaurant. The tourist’s family was promptly informed of his safe return and quickly came to meet him.
Mr. Thanwarich, a resident of Maha Sarakham, had visited the national park the previous Thursday. Park officials became aware of his disappearance when he failed to return to the office after registering at the park’s entrance and embarking on the mountainous trail.
The search operation, which lasted a week, involved multiple teams combing the dense forest area. The national park authorities have expressed their relief at the successful outcome and are reviewing safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Officials and rescuers who participated in the search efforts have been acknowledged for their dedication and perseverance throughout the operation. The park management emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and registering at checkpoints when exploring the park’s trails.
