The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting significant rainfall across Thailand from July 14 to July 18. This forecast is due to a strong monsoon trough affecting northern and northeastern regions and an active low-pressure system over the central South China Sea. The ongoing southwest monsoon impacting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is also expected to worsen weather conditions.
Authorities are warning residents to prepare for potential flash floods and overflows, especially in areas along waterways and low-lying regions. With widespread and potentially severe thundershowers predicted, the TMD urges heightened caution for all modes of transportation during this period.
Heavy rain is anticipated in several regions, with the Northeast provinces such as Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, and Ubon Ratchathani expected to see the most intense downpours. The central region, including Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi, along with the Bangkok metropolitan area, will also face heavy rains. Additionally, substantial rainfall is forecasted for other provinces, including Chanthaburi, Trat, Phetchaburi, Surat Thani, and Phuket.
The TMD has also reported that maritime conditions will be challenging over the next five days, with wave heights ranging from 2 to 3 meters in the upper Andaman Sea and exceeding 3 meters during thundershowers in the upper Gulf. All vessels planning to be at sea are advised to proceed with caution, and small boats are recommended to stay ashore to ensure safety.
Officials from various agencies, including local authorities and disaster response teams, are on alert to manage any emergencies that may arise due to the severe weather. They emphasize the importance of staying informed through official channels and following safety guidelines to minimize risks during this period of adverse weather.
