Flooding Hits Khon Kaen Province Amid Monsoon Trough

Severe flooding has struck Manchakhiri and Ban Phai districts of Khon Kaen Province, triggered by the monsoon trough passing through the region. On July 17, 2024, Road 2062 in Suan Mon, Manchakhiri District, faced extensive flooding, spanning over 300 meters due to overflow from Chi Rong Canal. Residents of Soi 10 on Na Mueang Road battled rising waters, reaching 30-50 centimeters, prompting efforts to safeguard homes with sandbags.

Local authorities, including Captain Topichai Wanta of Ban Phai District and Mr. Woraphon Phaksukchai, Deputy Mayor of Ban Phai City, alongside relevant agencies, assessed flood-affected areas along Huai Sai and Huai Chik creeks. Many homes, situated close to these waterways, suffered inundation, with water levels nearing roof height in some places. Efforts to clear debris and facilitate drainage in Non Sawang community are underway to expedite relief.

Despite the flood impact, some residents remain hesitant to evacuate, concerned about property loss. Officials are providing essential supplies—food, drinks, and medicines—throughout the day to affected communities, ensuring support reaches those in need. As rainfall subsides and water levels gradually recede, authorities anticipate a return to normalcy within 2-3 days, contingent on no further heavy rains.

The situation remains monitored closely, with contingency plans in place to assist residents as conditions improve across the affected areas of Ban Phai District.
