Korat is pleased as the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) announces adjustments to the design of its 16-kilometer dual-track elevated train project across the city, ensuring completion before the 2029 World Horticultural Exposition. On July 24th, a meeting convened at the Nakhon Ratchasima City Hall, chaired by Mr. Kittisak Teerawatthana, Vice Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The State Railway of Thailand (SRT), along with government and private sector representatives, including public agencies, gathered to discuss project progress.
During the session, SRT representatives presented via Zoom on the advancement of the high-speed dual-track train project from Map Kabao to Chira Road Junction. Addressing concerns from Korat residents, the Ministry of Transport, led by Mr. Suraphong Piyachote, Deputy Minister of Transport, approved modifications to elevate the railway through the city, spanning from Khok Kruat Station to Jira Road Junction, covering a total distance of 16 kilometers. Initially planned as an elevated rail line passing through the bypass bridge and Simathani Bridge, the height has been reduced to approximately 5.5 meters, allowing for second-floor parking at the new Nakhon Ratchasima Station building and Chira Road Junction. Consultants are currently designing connections to the Khon Kaen and Ubon Ratchathani railway lines, with plans set for completion by August 6th.
Workgroups for the high-speed train and dual-track projects will convene to ensure alignment and feasibility with civil engineering principles, presenting proposals to the Ministry of Transport for approval. The Ministry has greenlit the budget framework and initiated discussions on environmental impact assessment (EIA), paving the way for immediate construction commencement. The high-speed and dual-track train project is slated for completion ahead of the 2029 World Horticultural Exposition in Kong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
