Shinawatra Family Attends Funeral of PM’s Mother

On July 30, the Shinawatra family, including former Prime Minister Thaksin, joined funeral prayers for Mrs. Chotchoy Thavisin, mother of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, at Wat Thep Sirintrawat in Bangkok’s Pom Prap Sattru Phai district. The event also drew government officials, ministers, political party members, civil servants, and business figures.

Biography of Mrs. Chotchoy Thavisin:
Mrs. Chotchoy Thavisin (née Chutrakul), born on October 1, 1928, was the second child of Mr. Chu Chutrakul and Mrs. Milien Yip-insoy. Educated at Mater Dei School, she pursued Interior Design at Parsons School of Design, New York. Returning to Thailand, she worked at Sweet Home Furniture and later at the Turkish Embassy before dedicating herself to raising her children and grandchildren.

Married to Lieutenant Amnuay Thavisin, she raised her son, Prime Minister Srettha, single-handedly after her husband’s early passing. Supporting his career from business to politics, Mrs. Chotchoy Thavisin passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, at the age of 95 years and 9 months.
