Rama II Road Construction to Finish by June 2025

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, recently announced a significant milestone in infrastructure development along Rama II Road. All ongoing construction projects on this major thoroughfare are set to be completed by June 2025. This deadline, which was set in a policy announcement made on March 4, 2024, aims to conclude a lengthy period of roadworks that has spanned over seven years. In addition, all future construction projects planned for Rama II Road are now on hold to mitigate disruptions for the public.

Among the notable projects is the elevated motorway No. 82 (M82) stretching from Bangkhunthian to Ban Phaeo, which runs 24.7 kilometers along Rama II Road. With a budget of 29.24 billion baht, this project is divided into phases. Phase 1, covering 8.3 kilometers from Bangkhunthian to Ekachai, is nearly complete, with current progress at 97%. This segment, costing approximately 10.48 billion baht, features six lanes and two access points at Phanthai Norasingh and Mahachai 1. It is expected to be finished within 2024.

Construction efforts are being expedited to allow temporary use of the motorway between the Phanthai Norasingh and Mahachai 1 toll booths, covering a 4-kilometer stretch, by the end of this year. The full 24.7-kilometer route to Ban Phaeo is projected to open for free in June 2025, with toll collections commencing in 2027.

It was reported that these updates are part of a broader initiative to streamline traffic and improve transportation infrastructure across the region. Mr. Suriya emphasized that the focus on completing these projects on schedule is crucial for enhancing commuter experience and alleviating congestion.
