Karaoke Bar Owner Shoots Customer Over Jealousy in Nakhon Phanom

In the early hours of 21 October, a 52-year-old karaoke bar owner in Sri Songkhram District, Nakhon Phanom, fatally shot a frequent customer, citing jealousy as the motive. The suspect, identified as Mr. Nara Matrachai, surrendered to authorities, confessing that he killed the man due to suspicions of a romantic relationship between the victim and his wife, a Lao national who managed the bar.

The shooting took place at approximately 01:20 inside the “Rim Fang Nang Len” karaoke bar, located in Moo 6, Sri Songkhram Subdistrict. The victim, Mr. Phatrachai Boonramee, 33, from Tha Champa in Tha Uthen District, was found dead on the bar’s floor, shot once in the back with a 9mm handgun. Police later recovered the weapon from the scene.

After the incident, Mr. Nara contacted the police himself and remained at the scene until officers arrived. According to his statement, he had grown increasingly suspicious of the victim’s frequent visits and close interactions with his wife. His jealousy escalated, leading him to confront and shoot the victim during what he described as an uncontrollable outburst of rage.

Law enforcement, led by Colonel Srikorn Naiwat, chief of Sri Songkhram Police Station, arrived at the location to gather evidence and oversee the transfer of the body for post-mortem examination. Officials confirmed that Mr. Nara has cooperated fully with the investigation and remains in custody as legal proceedings move forward.

The karaoke bar, staffed predominantly by Lao women, including the suspect’s wife, is under further scrutiny by the police. Investigators are working to establish a complete account of events and ensure that all legal procedures are properly followed.
