Pathum Thani residents were startled late Sunday night when an Asian water monitor was discovered in their bathroom toilet. The Pathum Thani Snake Association’s Volunteer Radio Center was called to a housing estate near Khlong 2, Soi Bongkot 14, where the reptile’s head was seen poking out of the toilet bowl.
Rescue officers quickly arrived and, using specialized equipment, managed to safely remove the lizard, which was about the size of a child’s arm. The incident left the homeowners relieved but shaken.

Mrs. Bong-on, 64, recounted the events, explaining how her two cats alerted the family by running out of the bathroom in alarm. Upon investigation, her daughter discovered the water monitor, and the family immediately contacted the rescue team.
The rescue team also installed traps to prevent future incidents of reptiles entering through drainage pipes. This was the second time an animal had entered the home via the pipes, with the previous incident involving a snake. The family has since adopted extra caution, ensuring doors are properly closed after using the bathroom.
Montien Nakprasert, a volunteer officer, advised homeowners to seek professional help if they encounter such reptiles again, emphasizing the dangers of handling them without expertise. This warning comes after a prior incident in Bangkok where a resident was bitten by a python while using the toilet.
