Two Earthquakes Recorded in Southeast Asia on November 9

On November 9, 2024, two seismic events were recorded in Southeast Asia, as reported by the Earthquake Observation Division. The first tremor occurred in Chiang Mai province, Thailand, at 1:02 a.m. It measured 1.4 in magnitude and struck the Chiang Dao district at a shallow depth of just one kilometer. No damage or injuries have been reported at this time.

Earlier, at 12:03 a.m., a stronger earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 was recorded off the northern coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. This tremor, occurring at a depth of 10 kilometers, was centered approximately 633 kilometers from Thailand’s Phuket province. While the earthquake was felt in nearby areas, no reports of impact have emerged from Thailand’s coastal regions.

Thailand’s seismic monitoring system remains vigilant, as minor quakes are not uncommon in Southeast Asia. Both Chiang Mai and the Sumatra region are located near active tectonic plates, which makes them prone to occasional seismic activity.

The Earthquake Observation Division has assured the public that it will continue to monitor these events closely and provide updates on any further seismic activity that could affect Thailand.
