On May 26, 2023, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra participated alongside fellow ASEAN leaders in Kuala Lumpur to officially endorse the “Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future.” This significant event marked a pivotal moment during the 46th ASEAN Summit, where representatives from all member states gathered to shape the long-term vision for the ASEAN Community.
The newly signed declaration articulates the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, detailing strategic initiatives across various sectors, including political-security, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions. Additionally, it emphasizes institutional development and regional connectivity. These comprehensive measures aim to bolster ASEAN’s resilience, enhance integration, and promote inclusiveness over the next two decades.
Malaysia, currently serving as the ASEAN Chair for 2025, was the first to sign the declaration, followed by the Philippines, which is set to take over the chairmanship in 2026. The remaining member states signed in alphabetical order, with Thailand being the sixth nation to endorse the document.
