BANGKOK, Thailand – June 22, 2025 — The governments of Thailand and Cambodia have each issued travel advisories urging their citizens to avoid non-essential visits to the other country, citing a rise in bilateral tensions and potential security risks.
Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an urgent advisory through its Consular Department, warning Thai nationals to postpone unnecessary travel to Cambodia. The ministry also recommended that Thais currently in Cambodia avoid protest areas, remain alert, and stay updated through official communications, particularly from the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh.
In the event of an emergency, Thai citizens in Cambodia can contact the Royal Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh at +855 975 749 682, the Consulate-General in Siem Reap at +855 86 608 999, or the 24-hour Consular Affairs Call Center in Thailand at +66 2 572 8442. Assistance is also available via the Thai Consular mobile application.
In a reciprocal move, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation issued a similar notice to its citizens. The ministry advised Cambodians to refrain from traveling to Thailand unless absolutely necessary, pointing to what it described as “the tense situation in relations between Cambodia and Thailand.”
Cambodian nationals already in Thailand were urged to remain cautious, follow updates from official sources, and avoid public demonstrations or crowded gatherings. Emergency contacts were provided for Cambodians needing assistance, including numbers for the Cambodian Embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate General in Sa Kaeo Province.
Both countries emphasized that the advisories were precautionary measures intended to protect their citizens as diplomatic tensions persist.
Officials involved in the issuance of these advisories include representatives from the respective foreign ministries, consulates, and embassies in Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sa Kaeo.
