Thailand Raises Unemployment Pay for Laid-Off Workers to 60%

As of 28 June 2025, workers in Thailand who are laid off from their jobs are now entitled to 60% of their daily wage in unemployment benefits, following the publication of a new regulation by the Ministry of Labour in the Royal Gazette.

The updated policy, proposed by the Social Security Office (SSO), increases unemployment compensation for terminated workers from the previous rate of 50%. Eligible individuals can now receive the revised benefit for up to 180 days within a calendar year.

This translates to a maximum monthly payout of 9,000 baht, up from 7,500 baht. Over the course of six months, the total amount a claimant may receive rises from 45,000 baht to 54,000 baht.

The increase is aimed at providing stronger financial protection to insured workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. However, the adjustment applies specifically to those terminated from employment. Other categories of unemployment under the Social Security system, such as voluntary resignation, remain unchanged.

The new regulation came into effect on 28 June 2025, one day after its official publication. It covers all insured individuals under Thailand’s Social Security framework.

Officials from the Ministry of Labour and the SSO are expected to release additional guidance soon to assist employers and employees in understanding the revised terms and completing necessary paperwork.
