Thailand has expanded its campaign against transnational scam networks operating along the borders with Myanmar and Cambodia, intensifying efforts in July to disrupt infrastructure that supports online fraud.
The Thai government is escalating its operations targeting call center scam networks based along its borders with Myanmar and Cambodia. The strategy, first implemented earlier this year, includes coordinated disruptions to electricity, water, internet, and fuel supplies in areas identified as hubs for illegal operations. Officials say these measures are intended to dismantle the logistical systems enabling fraudulent activity, particularly online scams.
In the Thai–Myanmar border region, authorities report that these efforts have already disrupted organized criminal groups, leading to a measurable decrease in scam-related activities. Building on this, law enforcement has broadened its focus to areas along the Thai–Cambodian border, where new connections between criminal syndicates have emerged.
Recent operations have included a series of raids in central Thailand. Thai police, acting on intelligence, conducted searches at 19 sites in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, and Chonburi. These raids uncovered a foreign-led scam network, resulting in the seizure of high-value assets such as luxury vehicles and over 27 million baht in cash.
Officials confirm that the Ministry of Interior, the Royal Thai Police, and related agencies have been directed to maintain pressure on these networks. Restricting access to utilities remains a key tactic in preventing fraud operations from relocating or resuming activity in nearby zones.
Senior figures, including Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub, have emphasized the importance of sustained, multi-agency coordination in combating cross-border scams.
