Bangkok Administration’s Department of Environment Takes the Lead in World Environment Day 2023 Campaign

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) recently spearheaded an impactful campaign to commemorate World Environment Day 2023. Under the theme “Do It Yourself: Build a Beautiful World with Our Hands,” the event was expertly chaired by Chatree Watanakhajorn, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the BMA.

Taking place at Vachirabenjatas Park, popularly known as Rot Fai Park, in Chatuchak district, the campaign unfolded on Monday afternoon (5 June) from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The overarching goal of the initiative was to raise awareness about pressing environmental issues, with a specific focus on the detrimental effects of plastic pollution. The campaign urged the public to actively contribute to the protection and preservation of our planet.

In a symbolic act, the BMA Deputy Permanent Secretary collaborated with 14 different agencies to plant an impressive total of 17 trees, emphasizing the importance of green initiatives in combating climate change.

The event provided a comprehensive platform for attendees to partake in a range of exhibitions and interactive activities. Participants eagerly engaged in do-it-yourself (DIY) projects and gained practical knowledge aimed at addressing the pressing issue of plastic pollution.

The assortment of DIY activities, meticulously organized by various agencies, offered something for everyone. Attendees were given the opportunity to create their own recycling magic wands, explore the art of Papier-mâché, learn to make naturally fermented multipurpose cleaners, craft beautiful flower garlands, personalize cloth bags with vibrant paintings, and even produce nutrient-rich fertilizer using coffee grounds.

By encouraging the public to take an active role in sustainable practices through these engaging activities, the campaign aimed to foster a sense of responsibility and empower individuals to contribute to a greener and cleaner environment.

The Department of Environment’s efforts, in collaboration with multiple agencies, showcased the BMA’s commitment to environmental conservation and served as a reminder of the collective responsibility we all share in safeguarding our planet for future generations.

As the echoes of World Environment Day resonate, it is hoped that this campaign will inspire individuals, communities, and governments to work hand in hand, employing their own hands, to build a more beautiful and sustainable world.
