Government Announces Toll Fee Exemption on Major Expressways During Holidays

July 26, 2023 In a recent announcement that has brought relief to commuters, the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT), under the Ministry of Transport, declared a temporary exemption of toll fees on three of the country’s key expressways. The toll-free period is set to be implemented on the Chalerm Mahanakorn Expressway (1st Stage Expressway) with 19 checkpoints, the Si Rat Expressway (Second Stage Expressway) with 31 checkpoints, and the Udon Ratthaya Expressway (Bang Pa-in – Pak Kret) with 10 checkpoints for three consecutive days.

The toll-free days will be observed on Friday, July 28, 2023, in commemoration of H.M. His Majesty King Ramathibodi Sri Sinthorn Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklao Chao Yu Hua, followed by Tuesday, August 1, 2023, which marks Asanha Bucha Day, and finally, Wednesday, August 2, 2023, celebrated as Lent Day. These dates were officially declared as regular public holidays by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The decision to waive toll fees aligns with the government’s policy and the Ministry of Transport’s objective to facilitate public travel during holidays and alleviate the financial burden on citizens. Furthermore, the toll exemption is anticipated to contribute significantly to reducing traffic congestion that typically occurs in front of expressway toll plazas.

EXAT encourages expressway users to take advantage of the “EXAT Portal” application to monitor their remaining balance and seamlessly use their Easy Pass cards. Additionally, the application offers users the latest news, promotions, and exclusive privileges. In light of this initiative, EXAT extends an invitation to Easy Pass cardholders to register and update their information through the EXAT Portal Application or by visiting www.thaieasypass.com.

For those seeking enhanced convenience, the option to upgrade to the Easy Pass Plus is available. This upgrade enables users to access the automatic toll collection system without barriers, known as M-Flow, promising a seamless and hassle-free travel experience on the expressways.

As Thailand gears up to celebrate these upcoming holidays, the toll fee exemption comes as a welcome measure to ensure smoother and more enjoyable journeys for its citizens, while also supporting efforts to decongest major traffic points around the city. Commuters are advised to plan their trips accordingly and make the most of the toll-free period on these key expressways.
