Thailand Focuses on Sustainable Tourism with Emphasis on Wellness and Medical Tourism

Thailand’s government is stepping up efforts to promote sustainable tourism, focusing on wellness and medical tourism. According to a statement by Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha aims to increase income generation by enhancing sustainable tourism. The country’s medical tourism sector, which boasts certified facilities and reasonable pricing, is the largest in the Asia-Pacific region and is projected to be valued at 838 billion baht by 2027.

Wellness tourism, which is ranked among the top five post-pandemic travel trends, is also a priority for the government. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting volunteer programs, cultural events, food experiences and other wellness activities to drive the growth of wellness tourism in Thailand.

Thailand has earned a reputation for providing quality and affordable medical services, attracting patients from around the world. More than 60 medical centers in the country have been certified by the Joint Commission International (JCI), a global leader in healthcare quality and patient safety.

In addition to promoting wellness and medical tourism, the government is committed to supporting sustainable tourism and will continue to develop the industry in the post-pandemic era. The emphasis on wellness and medical tourism is expected to attract high-value tourists to the country, providing support for local businesses and communities.
