Bangkok installs extra LED lights for Songkran festivities

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched a major installation project to light up the city’s streets ahead of the Songkran festival. The project, which was initiated by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, aims to ensure that the capital is well-lit during the celebrations.

According to Bangkok Deputy Governor Visanu Subsomphon, the BMA plans to install an additional 25,000 LED bulbs in the first phase of the project, with 5,000 bulbs being used on 13 main roads, including Silom, Ploenchit, Yaowaraj, and Ekamai.

The BMA has also conducted a survey of 6,594 areas in the city and identified 238 bulbs on Sathorn Road, 118 on Silom Road, 141 on Ratchadapisek Road, and three on Wireless Road that require replacing. The main causes for the defective lighting are blown-out fuses or missing electric cables.

To ensure the safety and security of both locals and revelers during and after the Songkran festival, the BMA is encouraging city residents to report any blackouts or issues by using the 1555 hotline or the Traffy Fondue application.

With this project, the BMA aims to create a festive atmosphere in the city and also make sure that residents and tourists can move around safely and comfortably. The LED bulbs will provide bright and efficient lighting, which will be especially useful during the celebrations when many people take to the streets to participate in water fights and other activities.

The BMA hopes that the project will also have a positive impact on the local economy, as the increased lighting will make it easier for businesses to operate during the festival. The initiative is a testament to the BMA’s commitment to ensuring that Bangkok remains a vibrant and attractive city, both for its residents and visitors.
