Efforts Intensify to Enhance Safety in Thailand Tourism

Minister Puangpet Chunlaiad, from the Office of the Prime Minister, took the helm in a pivotal meeting aimed at enhancing collaboration between public and private sectors within the tourism industry. The gathering addressed an array of pressing issues concerning tourism, with a primary focus on mitigating incidents involving taxi drivers engaging in aggressive solicitation tactics toward tourists for purchasing goods and services from affiliated shops.

Among the key topics deliberated were the equitable collection of fares, management of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and the paramount aspect of ensuring tourist safety. Proposed strategies encompassed a blend of technological advancements and regulatory measures. The implementation of AI-powered surveillance cameras to detect traffic infractions, alongside initiatives to revamp sidewalks and regulate public transport parking, emerged as critical solutions.

Furthermore, a system of distinctive symbols, such as stickers for tuk-tuk tricycle rickshaws and taxis, will be introduced to caution tourists against fraudulent solicitations and signify the legitimacy of registered vehicles and affiliated establishments. Collaborative efforts among pertinent agencies will be intensified to effectively identify, penalize, and deter offenders targeting tourists.

Social interventions will complement regulatory actions, with public awareness campaigns aimed at fostering community vigilance and recognizing positive contributions to society, while admonishing misconduct. In addition, tourists visiting Thailand will receive comprehensive informational support, including emergency contact numbers and curated guides featuring reputable and certified shops and services endorsed by relevant authorities.

Minister Puangpet Chunlaiad, along with officials from various partner agencies, convened to strategize and initiate concrete steps towards ensuring a safer and more hospitable tourism environment in Thailand.
