The United States has indicated a willingness to engage in formal trade discussions with Thailand, according to Thai government sources.
The move comes as both nations look to strengthen bilateral economic relations amid shifting global trade dynamics.
Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Thai Embassy in Washington has received encouraging signals from American agencies regarding the scheduling of future trade talks. The embassy has been instructed to work swiftly with U.S. counterparts to determine a suitable timeframe for negotiations.
The proposed talks are expected to focus on enhancing trade cooperation and addressing shared economic interests. Thailand has appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Pichai Chunhavajira to lead the negotiation team, underscoring the importance of the initiative.
Officials have expressed optimism about the discussions, noting the longstanding relationship between the two countries. Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa highlighted the depth of diplomatic and economic ties between Thailand and the U.S., which have remained steady across successive administrations.
