Child trafficking crackdown in Pattaya rescues 9 minors

Pattaya, June 18, 2025 – Thai authorities have rescued nine children and arrested seven Cambodian nationals as part of a coordinated operation targeting child labour and suspected human trafficking in the coastal tourist hub of Pattaya.

The arrests follow a joint enforcement action on June 16, led by Pattaya Tourist Police in collaboration with multiple agencies. Officers acted on reports of children under the age of 15 being used to sell goods late at night along Walking Street, one of Pattaya’s busiest entertainment areas.

Initial arrests of three Cambodian nationals were made at the scene. Authorities then secured a search warrant from the Pattaya Provincial Court and conducted a raid at a nearby residence in Soi Mab Yai Lia 1, Nong Prue sub-district, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province, where four more suspects were found and taken into custody.

According to police, six of the nine rescued children are Cambodian nationals believed to be victims of human trafficking. The remaining three are Thai children deemed to be at risk of rights violations. All minors have been referred to social welfare services for protection and care.

One suspect, a 23-year-old Cambodian woman, faces charges under Thailand’s Anti-Human Trafficking Act for procuring, transporting, or forcing minors under 15 into hazardous work. She also faces additional charges related to working without a permit and illegal entry. The remaining six individuals have been charged with illegal entry and working without legal authorization.

Tourist Police Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Saksira Phueak-am stated that while some members of the network may still be at large, the arrests represent a significant disruption to illegal labour activity in the area. He noted that financial incentives remain a driving factor behind child labour and urged public vigilance.

Authorities called on the public, business operators, and tourists to report any suspected child exploitation or human trafficking activities via the 24-hour Tourist Police hotline 1155.

The press briefing was attended by senior officials, including Pol Maj Gen Naraseth Suwannanikha, commander of Tourist Police Division 1; Pol Col Anek Sratongyu, Pattaya police chief; Pol Col Napaspong Khositsuriyamanee, Chon Buri immigration chief; and local government representatives.
