Korat High-Speed Rail Project Progresses Amid Tenant Relocation

The construction progress of the high-speed rail project in Korat has taken a significant step forward as tenants are urged to vacate their premises to make way for the demolition and construction of a new three-story station building. This development comes as the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) issues an announcement in front of 35 commercial buildings on the west side of Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station, Mukmontri Road, opposite Mary Witthaya School, Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality District, Nakhon Ratchasima.

According to the announcement, the area is part of a cooperation project between the governments of Thailand and China aimed at developing a high-speed rail system connecting Bangkok-Nong Khai Section, Phase 1, Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima, covering a distance of 251.9 km. The project, under Contract 3-5 for Civil Works, includes the Ko Kruat Station-Nakhon Ratchasima Station section. Tenants have been requested to vacate the premises by the specified date of 2024, with the threat of legal action if no action is taken.

Despite most tenants cooperating with the relocation efforts, there are still five tenants who have refused to move out, citing negotiations for moving costs and compensation. However, the land in question belongs to the SRT, with the contract for its use having been canceled eight years ago.

As the deadline for vacating the premises approaches, preparations for demolition and construction are well underway. The SPTK Joint Venture Company Limited, responsible for the construction work, has begun bringing heavy machinery to the area to facilitate the demolition of buildings and the adjustment of the construction area for the new station building.

Meanwhile, SRT officials, along with private contractors, have engaged with affected parties to discuss compensation and coordinate the demolition process. The project aims to serve both high-speed and double-track trains, necessitating the relocation of equipment and tools belonging to SRT officials working at Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station.

The project’s progress also involves the closure of certain routes to facilitate construction, with plans to close three points: the diversion road under Simathani Bridge, Sueb Siri 6 Road, and the Sib Siri Road intersection, in order to minimize disruption to railway construction activities.
